Frequently asked questions

Are you a recruitment consultancy firm?
We should not be confused with recruitment consultants, their job is to find suitable candidates to fill their client’s vacancies. Firms are not our clients. We offer aspects of services similar to career consultants but we also work with our clients to target and market their details to a large number of firms. Due to our extensive resources we target thousands of firms across England and Wales giving our clients the best possible opportunity to obtain a post.

Do you target the large / magic circle firms?
We rarely target such firms due to their strict requirements. We mainly target small, medium and high street firms. If you are specifically looking to obtain a post in a large / magic circle firm please do not apply.

Why has my application not been accepted for registration?
We receive hundreds of applications and we want to ensure we are able to help the most suitable candidates, therefore please do not be discouraged if you are not accepted for registration. You are allowed to reapply after 3 months (up to a maximum of 2 applications a year). In some instances we may even suggest registration on another service package.

Why don’t you accept everyone?
Applicant suitability is one factor. It is also important to note that if we accepted each and every applicant there will inevitably be less interview / job opportunities, as a consequence of this our reputation would suffer and we would receive fewer recommendations.

Why have I not received a decision?
After an application is made we aim to reply with a decision within 3 working days. In busy periods where we receive a vast number of applications there will usually be a short delay. We ask for understanding during such occasions.

Are your fees reasonable?
Our service fees start from £280. We realise the academic and financial difficulties law students have faced and have thus made our fees affordable to applicants who are accepted for registration. While our dedicated services are unique we have noticed that there are other establishments that charge thousands of pounds for some comparable aspects of our services e.g. some of the well known general career consultants charge over £2000 on average.

What happens after I register?
After the review and evaluation process we will then begin the important ‘marketing’ and job targeting phase. We will target 1000 firms to give you an outstanding opportunity to obtain a post. (500 firms are targeted regarding the work experience service) After this process our work will conclude. We will however maintain contact via email to inform you of interview matters, queries and all other relevant information.

How do I know that you are not targeting the same firms for all clients?
We are able to target over 90 % of all firms and therefore have great flexibility. We use several methods namely email and traditional mail. While targeting 1000 firms is a great amount with regard to number of applications, this is a relatively small percentage out of the total number of firms in England and Wales.

How can I be sure that you have targeted the firms?
We will keep you informed throughout the process and we can even supply you with a list of the firm’s names that have been targeted. You can request this at the end of the job targeting / marketing phase. There have even been occasions where we have targeted more than the number of firms stated.

Why do you target 500 firms for the work experience service and 1000 firms for the other services?
We feel that by targeting 1000 firms this will give even the ‘weakest’ of applicants the opportunity to obtain several interviews and to subsequently be offered a post. Even though a guarantee can never be made we feel 1000 is more than an adequate number to satisfy our clients needs. We target 500 firms for the work experience service as work experience placements tend to be unremunerated and last for a short period of time, this makes obtaining an interview a little easier, hence the need for fewer applications.

What about practice areas and location?
We will ask you to specify preferred practice areas / locations but due to immense competition in the legal sector we will target a vast range of practice areas and locations in England and Wales to give you the best possible chance to obtain a post. Most clients are prepared to relocate and realise that a legal career requires great flexibility and dedication. If you are invited for an interview in a location that you do not particularly desire we suggest you attend to at least gain interview experience.

Considering the work you undertake and the number of firms you target how can you afford to set your service fees so low?
We are a developing establishment and are very energetic and passionate about our work. We want to build a large network based on recommendations and hope that every registered client will recommend our services to their friends and colleagues. We aim to expand our services and recognise that this will help. We realise that our fees are low and intend to raise our service fees in the future in order to maintain high quality services. We will continue to ensure that our fees are affordable to applicants who are accepted for registration.

I have been accepted for registration but I cannot pay the fees, what do I do now?
Please do not apply unless your finances are in order. While you are not obliged to register at this stage, you will inevitably be delaying another person’s application. If you decide to reapply at a later stage your application will not be looked upon favourably. We therefore ask prospective applicants to think carefully about all personal aspects prior to applying. It is important to remember that if you are accepted for registration you will be given a short period of time to complete the registration / fee payment. This is due to applicant processing and competition factors.

Do you guarantee that I will obtain an interview or post?
No establishment can offer such a guarantee and we are the same. If you come across such an establishment, you must think very carefully about their credibility. Ultimately, the deciding factor whether a candidate obtains a particular post is dependant upon their performance in interview.

I am interested in your services but I do not know when to apply?
We encourage applicants to use all methods possible to obtain a suitable post prior to applying for our services. Your own careers advisor should offer such advice i.e. to exhaust all avenues and contacts. If you intend to apply for one of our services please ensure that all your queries are satisfied prior to making an application.
